Newington Wolves Wins a Nail Biter in Bristol

The Newington Wolves evened its league record to 1 and 1 on Sunday, September 15 with a 1-0 victor over the Bristol Soccer Club in Bristol.

The first half was dominated by defense by both teams as each team was held scoreless. Erik St. Pierre picked up where he left off from Saturday by shutting down the Bristol club by stopping every shot that came his way. Each team had scoring opportunities, but neither team could capitalize.

The second half was equal to the first-half in defensive intensity as each team again played outstanding defense and each team was pitching a shutout.

The breakthrough finally came with just about a minute left in the game when Cooper Johnson fired a shot on goal that was knocked down by the Bristol goalie. Seeing the loose ball, Speedy's positioning allowed him to pop the goal into the net for a 1-0 lead. Bristol had only seconds left on the clock after the goal and could not muster a shot on goal.

Newington will now turn its attention to it's next game on Friday, September 20th with a friendly game against the West Hartford Rangers. The game will be played under the lights at NHS field #4 at 7:30 p.m.
